First of all I’m sorry for everyone involved in this horrific situation! There’s a real difference between a mental health crisis and an armed assault. When someone is actively charging at police with a knife, that’s a deadly force scenario — not a counseling session. If cities start replacing trained officers with personnel who aren’t equipped for violent encounters, we’re not reducing harm. We’re increasing the risk — to everyone.
