We've refreshed our Nevada billboards for spring! Thanks to a generous supporter, wild horses have been front-and-center on two billboards outside Reno since last July! This is also where our team works daily to implement AWHC's fertility control program on the Virginia Range 🌟

🇲🇽🇺🇸 REPORT: Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced Monday that her government will raise migrant deaths in U.S. detention before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and file a brief in a lawsuit challenging conditions at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center in California, where 52-year-old Mexican citizen Jose Guadalupe Ramos died on March 25, 2026—marking the 14th Mexican national to die in ICE custody in President Trump’s second term. 🔸 Ramos was found unconscious in his bunk at the private detention facility, located about 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles. Detainees said he had been struggling to breathe and showed signs of overheating. He was transported to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead, though witnesses allege he may have already died in his cell. ICE later pointed to pre-existing conditions—diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol—in explaining his death. 🔸 The IACHR, a regional human rights body linked to the Organization of American States, is not a criminal court but carries political and legal weight, often pressuring governments to change policies. Mexico’s move marks one of its strongest public criticisms to date of U.S. treatment of migrants. 🔸 Mexico said it will file an amicus curiae (i.e. supporting the case without being a direct party) in a lawsuit challenging conditions at Adelanto. Detainees and immigrant rights groups say the facility denies medical care, provides inadequate food, and lacks basic sanitation. 🔸 Sheinbaum said Mexico is actively following up on investigations into deaths in custody, sending formal diplomatic communications seeking clarification and accountability. Mexico is also strengthening its consular network in the U.S. to provide better support, including legal assistance, direct contact with families, and closer monitoring of detention conditions. 🎉 GREAT NEWS! VFAR's bill to ban glue traps in all New York State–owned and leased buildings has just been re-introduced! A huge thank you to Assembly Member Paula Kay for becoming the new lead sponsor and to Senator Jabari Brisport for championing this critical legislation (A10189 / S3046B). Glue traps aren’t just cruel. They’re dangerous for all animals. Animals can struggle for hours, suffering broken limbs, cuts, dehydration, or even death. Squirrels, birds, and raccoons sometimes encounter these traps too, and even companion animals can be harmed if they accidentally step on or touch them. This bill is a vital step toward protecting wildlife, rodents, and pets from unnecessary suffering. New Yorkers, take action to pass this vital legislation today: vfar.org/gluetraps 💜

🐙 Progress for Octopuses in New York! 🐙 Yesterday afternoon, the NYS Assembly Environmental Conservation Committee passed A.8043B, legislation to prevent industrial octopus farming from coming to our state, with a vote of 21-9. This was the first major milestone for the bill, which now moves forward to the Rules Committee! A heartfelt thank you goes out to Committee Chair Deborah Glick and Assembly Member Tony Simone, the lead sponsor, for their leadership and unwavering commitment to protecting these intelligent, sensitive animals. Please thank them! @WoodstockFarm

You've heard about the provision to keep pigs in gestation crates hidden in the farm bill. Turns out there's another anti-animal provision buried in there too. Section 3201(d) would repeal a 30-year-old law barring federal tax dollars from funding mink fur industry marketing. Mink are wild, solitary animals. On fur factory farms, they're crammed into cages where they routinely attack each other. Americans don't want factory-farmed fur. So the farm bill would use our tax dollars to subsidize marketing mink fur to wealthy consumers abroad — primarily in China. Politicians know animal welfare is more popular than this kind of corporate welfare. So they buried this in the farm bill's trade section — in a line that doesn't even mention 'fur.' This isn't a farm bill anymore. It's a factory farm bill. There's still time to tell your senators and representatives to stop it. Photo credit: Jo-Anne McArthur, WeAnimals.

3,800 JBS employees are participating in this massive strike, derailing operations at their current facilities. These greedy, soulless execs have been pushing their workers to the brink, paying them dirt poor wages and increasing line speeds and injuries. #GoVegan!

"There is a dog inside this building who was marked for death on the day of her birth. She will never go outside, play with toys, or get hugs from her family. She will never even have a name, just a serial code burned into her ear. She will never know the love that every pup deserves. I’m leaving these symbols at Ridglan Farms in the hope that we can work together to rescue that dog. She’s hurt. And she needs our help." The rescuers on March 15 left these stuffed animals and flowers at the doorstep of Ridglan Farms. They represented our promise: We are coming back to rescue you all.

The current DHS map shows a border wall ripping through this exact stretch of river in Big Bend Ranch State Park. They’ve awarded a $1.2 billion dollar construction contract. They’ve waived every single environmental law to rush the project. We could lose this river forever.

A series of glaring legal errors led authorities to conclude Ridglan was exempt from animal cruelty laws. But underlying all of this was a darker truth: there were two standards of law being applied, one for the powerful, and one for all the rest. blog.simpleheart.org/p/the-authorit…

In 2024, a federal prosecutor drafted a complaint with a bombshell allegation: Ridglan was performing illegal surgeries on dog without bothering with anesthesia. This was proven 100% true. But instead of protecting the pups, the authorities covered it up. Here's why.
