Five months ago, I thought I might never see another sunrise. At 1 a.m. on October 26, a heart attack hit without warning. I woke gasping for air as fire exploded in my chest and clawed into my neck and back. Crushing nausea washed over me like I was drowning. I was 74, with low cholesterol, perfect blood pressure, and not a pound overweight - the picture of health except for hypothyroidism. In that terrifying moment, I truly believed this was it...I was dying. But I didn’t wait until morning. I live with my daughter and son-in-law, and years ago they had tucked a panic button by my bed. My daughter hit it instantly, and within minutes help was on the way. The ambulance arrived in under 20 minutes. At the hospital they rushed me straight to the catheterization lab for angioplasty. My cardiologist later gripped my hand and said, “You acted fast - that’s why you’re here. Most don’t. They wait, deny, and pay with their lives.” Today, I’m standing here healthier and more grateful than ever - and the surprising hero of my recovery was something I almost skipped: cardiac rehabilitation. That program turned out to be one of the best decisions I made. It’s been five months since my heart attack, and yes, I’m doing so much better. The main reason is the Cardiac Rehabilitation program offered by my health insurance - 36 sessions in total. Twice a week, I would attend these sessions where they would attach a heart monitor, take my blood pressure, and send me to the exercise room. I’d ride the stationary bike for fifteen minutes, move to the stair stepper for another fifteen minutes, and finish on the treadmill for the final fifteen minutes. Before leaving, they would take my blood pressure again. I can honestly say I was skeptical during the first month or so, but looking back, I doubt I would be as healed and healthy as I am today without it.

The older I get, the more I realize stability beats excitement every single time. I used to think a good life meant constant adventure and unpredictability. Chasing the next thrill. Always moving. Now I wake up in the same house every day, drink coffee at the same time, see the same people I trust. And honestly? It's everything. Stability isn't boring. It's the thing that lets you actually build something real. A calm home where you feel safe. Mornings you can count on. People who show up. Knowing there's food in the fridge. These sound simple until you've lived without them. Then you realize they're not basic at all. They're the foundation of everything good in life. Excitement is overrated when you're constantly anxious. Stability is underrated until you finally have it. What's one stable thing in your life that you used to take for granted but now appreciate?

Thank you everyone for the best wishes and prayers, I was supposed to have an angiogram done first thing this morning but an emergency came in so it's been rescheduled for tomorrow morning. So that means another morning of fasting...Ugh! I did get the stress test done, EKG and ultrasound - I'll get all the results on Wednesday. 🤞 I'm wiped, so going to have some dinner and go to bed early. Thank you all for your prayers.

40+ years in this country. Today my mom made it official. She became a U.S. citizen 🇺🇸 She came here from England on a full ride to run for the University of Kentucky. Met my dad. Built a life. Built us. She’s loved America for decades... she just finally signed the paperwork to match it. We pulled our daughter out of school for a couple hours to surprise her at the celebration. ↳ A room full of people. ↳ Faces from every season of our lives. ↳ So much pride in one space. She’ll always love her English roots. But America is home. And today, it became official. Congratulations, Mom! We love you!
