The opposition spent years telling investors the Maldives would default, claiming the government could not meet its obligations. As promised, today the $500M Sukuk due April 2026 has been fully settled. Under President @MMuizzu, over $650M was secured and reserves were built to approximately $1.27B ahead of repayment. The plan and capacity were always in place. Obligations met. Credibility intact. Confidence restored. This is what effective leadership looks like. Thank you, President Muizzu. We are proud.

The successful settlement of the USD 500 million Sukuk issued in 2021 marks a significant and commendable milestone for the Maldives. Under the decisive leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the Government has demonstrated strong fiscal discipline, strategic foresight, and unwavering commitment to economic stability. By fully repaying the principal amount of USD 500 million along with the associated coupon amounting to USD 24.68 million, the administration has not only honoured its financial obligations but also reinforced the country’s credibility in international financial markets. The prudent utilisation of the Sovereign Development Fund alongside other foreign currency reserves reflects a carefully calibrated approach to debt management. This achievement stands as a testament to President Muizzu’s clear vision and diligent efforts to strengthen the nation’s financial position, reduce debt burdens, and safeguard long-term economic resilience. It sends a strong signal of confidence to investors and underscores the Government’s dedication to responsible economic stewardship for the benefit of the Maldivian people.
