I wonder if MLB would say at midseason that some umpires who are the worst at ABS challenges - say, worst 5 - can work, but not behind the plate for remainder of season?

@jcmccaffrey @tylermilliken_ Defense seems to be an issue with the Outfield. Yoshida and Duran have been criticized for their play. Why would they put them out there together. The Red Sox pride themselves on following defensive metrics and this goes against that.

Cora said when Yoshida plays left like today, Duran will start in center and Roman DH. That way later in the game, he’ll have Rafaela enter for defense in center, move Duran move to left and and they keep Anthony in the game at DH. That’s how he envisions it working this year

@Savageboston What we don’t want is ABS to be front and center to any umpire accountability. That should have happened years ago but circumstances kept it from happening.
ABS is like the icing on the cake to help facilitate the ramifications of poor performance.

Being dead serious, he should be suspended.

I feel like we are days away from home plate umpires simply refusing to acknowledge ABS challenges. They’ve never been held to account in front of a small group of calm reporters, let alone 40,000 rabid fans. There’s no way they can handle this.

@YankeeLineups @jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan I agree with that but the flow of the game will take the biggest hit. They should either implement it fulltime time or remove it completely. Whatever they choose doesn’t matter to me but the indecisiveness is painful.

@BostonFanRoom @jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan A challenge takes at most 15 seconds. And let’s assume there‘s a max of 20 challenges in a game. That means an absolute worst case of adding 5 minutes to the game. In reality, it’ll likely add more like 1-2 minutes total. This isn’t a problem.
