My heart is breaking -- Nick (@nickpopemod) passed away this afternoon at our home. The last few weeks of his life, even as he suffered, he managed to do a few interviews from home. I was so lucky to have met and to have married Nick. He was a wonderful husband. I loved him dearly.

Merry Christmas 🎄 European Robin (Erithacus rubecula): The "Robin Redbreast" was given its nickname long before a distinction was made in the English language between "Red" & "Orange". Superb photo taken by Martina Olivia of this fluffy Robin taken in the UK.

Not a British species, but the Scarlet Ibis, sometimes called red ibis (Eudocimus ruber), is a vibrantly plumaged species of ibis in the bird family Threskiornithidae. It inhabits tropical South America and part of the Caribbean

Lovely to hear the 'jangling keys' song of a Corn Bunting in North Dorset yesterday, especially with two Quail calling in the next field. @30DaysWild @DorsetBirds

David and our 'Ultimate Shetland' group found this migrant Honey Buzzard at Eshaness yesterday. At one stage we watched it being mobbed by an Arctic Skua! The species is a rare visitor to our shores with only a handful of records every year. Pics by tour particpant Jeff Smith.

Most birding trips to Mongolia start & end staying at the Mongolica Hotel on the outskirts of Ulaanbaatar. There is great birding within walking distance from the hotel. Several Azure Tits were seen there recently which was a very welcome new bird for me. #BirdsSeenIn2025
