Goodnews! We have submitted a Policy Brief on strengthening women’s leadership and participation in Mombasa County’s Blue Economy governance to Ibrahim Mutwafy the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Blue Economy, Agriculture and Livestock in Mombasa County.

There is no culture or tradition that justifies harming women & girls We recently marked the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM in Samburu County with the belief that Towards 2030: there is No End to Female Genital Mutilation Without Sustained Commitment and Investment

We conducted a validation workshop in Tana River following our study on how GBV affects women’s access to livestock insurance. Government Repre, community leaders, and CSOs, stakeholders endorsed the findings and emphasized on GBV awareness and sensitization to improve uptake.

To strengthen access to survivor-centred GBV services by working with GBV Recovery Centres,we recently conducted a due diligence visit to Samburu County Referral Hospital to explore collaboration on coordinated and improved survivor access to GBV response services. #EndGBV

Strengthening women’s leadership is key to advancing gender-responsive blue economy. We convened women fisherfolk dialogue with representatives from 16 BMUs in Mombasa County, highlighting fish-for-sex practices driven by unequal power relations and male-dominated leadership.

Shelters are vital for GBV survivors, offering safety and access to counseling, medical, and legal support. CCGD Kenya visited Beacon of Change Initiative Shelter in Mandera for due diligence to understand the shelter’s operations and how it supports survivors of GBV in the area

To close our four-day Capacity Strengthening for Women’s Leadership and Advocacy in Beach Management Units, we held a key dialogue with women from the Tudor in Mombasa, creating a safe space to share experiences, envision leadership, and confront barriers in fisheries governance.
