Last week, students from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf competed in the regional stage of the F1 in Schools STEM Racing Competition. BESL/CMB proudly sponsored the school in its first year entering the competition. Competing against 52 teams, Glantaf’s 'Eclipse' team secured an outstanding 3rd place overall in their debut year. Earlier this month, we were presented with a 25-Year Certificate from @BESAGroup, recognising our ongoing relationship and membership with the organisation. CMB Founders, Steve and Christine Borley, are pictured below being presented with the award. Steve spoke on the recognition, saying: “On behalf of the directors and fellow company founder Christine Margret Borley of CMB Engineering, we would like to thank BESA and BESA Chief Executive David Frise for taking the time to present the company with a certificate recognising our 25 years of membership. From humble beginnings in 1992, the company has grown to become one of the major players in the industry whilst retaining our family and people-focused values. Having spent 9 years ‘outside the tent’, we have now enjoyed 25 years inside the tent, growing organically through our ‘train-and-retain’ policy, delivering our ‘no-grief’ attitude to contracting, and sticking to our mantra: we are not like everybody else.” A special thank you to BESA and David Frise for this recognition, and of course to all our staff and workforce for making these achievements possible.

As we reach the end of National Apprenticeship Week 2026, we made a trip to our in-house CMB Workshop on Wednesday, where for 27 years, we have trained and developed our own apprentices. Over those last 27 years, we have seen a remarkable number of apprentices come through the ranks at CMB and go on to achieve great things, and #NAW2026 is about recognising that next generation of talent. We spoke to third-year CMB Apprentices, Louis Spillane and Billy Jenkins who are now on site 3 days a week, in college 1 day a week and in our workshop 1 day a week, being mentored and trained by CMB Apprentice Training Coordinators, Marcello Dattero and Alex Mackie. This week, they assisted with the installation of a practical demonstration board for an upcoming careers event at a local high school. These three demonstration boards will then be used at future careers events and construction evenings to give attendees a basic understanding of simple pipe techniques and to encourage the next generation of apprentices to enter the industry. #NationalApprenticeshipWeek #NAW2026 #Apprenticeships

We kicked off National Apprenticeship Week at CMB Engineering by speaking to apprentices past and present. Earlier this week we interviewed 1st Year CMB Apprentice Dylan Edwards, and Senior Craftsman (and former CMB Apprentice) Ryan Legge, who are currently working on the City Hall renovation on behalf of @cardiffcouncil. They shared what led them to pursue an apprenticeship, the benefits of learning on the job, and why they’d encourage others to consider this career path.
