Egirls, I am not an internet man. I am sadly also a gorgeous woman, I just like to act like an anonymous chud. Sorry if this is disappointing.

These shows which claim to engage with women's issues always end up being more hurtful to women in the end, especially with stuff like this. I've read romantasy novels about women who struggle with infertility and they just get magically cured of it at the end. Like? That is not engaging with the subject dude! Bridgerton is the same. It can only engage as deeply as necessary to earn the representation points.

Making Francesca's love interest a woman in the show messes with one of the key themes of Francesca’s storyline: her struggle with infertility. Francesca's story hinges on her great desire to be a mother and her struggles to become pregnant, which continues even after she and Michael have been married for many years. Many women who struggle with infertility have particularly loved Francesca’s story because the novel gives representation to a still taboo topic and illustrates how to support a woman who is struggling with some kind of infertility. The "Bridgerton" series is sending the message that queer representation is more important than the original storyline, which gives representation to the 1 in 5 married women who struggle with infertility. At this point I hate remakes in general but I don't understand why PoC feel like we need to remake every franchise "with PoC this time" instead of just not fucking doing that and making their own movies. I would low-key be offended. We don't have to do this it's dumb. 5 years from now imma make a Django unchained movie where Django is an Irish guy.

I’m once again reminding you that people don’t hate racially diverse casting; they hate 1) double standards, 2) badly made films, and 3) the injection of the leftist political messaging in every single piece of media. The racebending of Snape and Hermione checks all the boxes, but is most egregious because of 3: 1) Hermione spends the majority of the films being called a “mudblood” by the blond white kid. 2) Snape is likewise bullied, ostracized, and distrusted. Accused of crimes he did not commit. Literally strung up and tortured by a bunch of white boys after being rejected by the white girl he had a crush on. Casting a mixed-race girl to play Hermione and a Black guy to play Snape inserts obvious modern racial political overtones into all of these interactions that distract from the story and the characters. That these two characters in particular were race-bended while others were recast as virtual carbon copies means this decision cannot credibly be given the benefit of the doubt. People don’t want everything to be about leftist politics. They’re sick of it. It cheapens the writing, which already addressed the themes of eugenics, slavery, totalitarianism, propaganda, discrimination, and social ostracism, but did so using world-building and metaphor in a politically agnostic way. It examined themes in the abstract rather than being one step removed from a political yard sign. This is what good writers and filmmakers do because it universalizes the message and doesn’t insult the intelligence of the audience. WHEN HERMIONE IS CALLED A MUDBLOOD, IT’S AN ALLEGORY FOR EUGENICS Yeah, no shit, everyone with a brain already got that. They didn’t need it spelled out by casting a mixed girl. (By the way, the American South is not the only time in history that people have cared about bloodline purity, so you haven’t deepened the allegory by underlining it in red marker; you cheapened and provincialized it) People just want good writing and filmmaking. They don’t want everything everywhere to be a vessel for hack writers and leftist propagandists. And they’re not racist for wanting that. But you’re making them racist by making everything about race and politicizing beloved media in the process.

HBO is spending $100 million per episode to reboot Harry Potter. That’s more per episode than the average Harry Potter film cost to produce. Seven seasons. 56 episodes. A potential $5.6 billion total production budget. Paapa Essiedu signed a 10-year contract for this role. He’ll be 45 when it’s finished. He’s receiving death threats on Instagram. People telling him to quit or they’ll kill him. His response: “The abuse fuels me.” Here’s what the people sending those messages don’t understand about how this actually works. The original eight Harry Potter films grossed $7.7 billion at the box office on a combined $1.2 billion production budget. That’s a 6.4x return before merchandising, theme parks, and streaming revenue. Warner Bros. is spending $100M per episode because the Wizarding World generates roughly $2 billion per year across all revenue streams, and they need a new content engine to keep that machine running for the next decade. Essiedu was one of the first actors attached to this project. Emmy and BAFTA nominee from I May Destroy You. Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy across all eight films, called the backlash what it is: racism. The casting controversy has generated more press coverage for this show than any marketing campaign could buy. Every article about the death threats includes the trailer link. Every outrage tweet puts the show back in people’s timelines. 13M views on this single tweet are proof. Warner Bros. has run this playbook before. The internet raged when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker. When Daniel Craig was cast as Bond. When Michael Keaton was cast as Batman. Each of those performances became the definitive version of the character. Essiedu grew up reading these books at a local library because his mom couldn’t afford a babysitter. Now he’s anchoring the most expensive TV series ever produced. The people threatening him over Instagram DMs are going to watch the show anyway. That’s the part they’ll never admit.

A lot of us are not scared of them getting hurt or something (though of course, that's a worry) its more about being scared of getting wrapped up into a forever war with a meat grinder attached. Iraq was brutal for us. Soliders who walk in who aren't like... delta force... kinda freaks people out about being in for a much longer time than we'd like to be.

As an Iranian, I honestly don’t understand some American’s obsession with “no boots on the ground.” I’m asking this sincerely, can someone please explain it to me? From my perspective, I would genuinely feel offended and angry if I were an American soldier or commander. They are not children. They have agency. They know exactly what they’re doing. This kind of rhetoric deeply undermines the courage, sacrifice, and greatness of American soldiers. I understand that some people say this out of genuine concern for the troops. But to me, it reveals a scared, broken, and traumatized mindset, one that is afraid to face the real world and its dangers, and that comforts itself by denying reality. In the actual world outside, dangers and threats are real. The bravest and greatest people consciously choose to go out and protect their values. I hope these people heal from the traumas of the past, and believe in the capability and strength of American soldiers, and to truly honor their sacrifices instead of constantly undermining them with fearful slogans. #ThankYouTrump#IranWar

This scene is so surreal. A little Iranian girl is swinging، while in the background, IRGC military facilities are burning in the flames of a war they called for, for 47 years. Iranians are waiting for troops to enter and liberate them. #Iran

The irony is that in a well-ordered society, this would be desirable: The government would be run by middle-aged people tasked with safeguarding the common good, the spirited youth would have fun and build lasting friendships, and the old would remain home and occasionally aid in child-rearing. Instead, we live in a gerontocracy of out-of-touch vampiric boomers, the middle-aged are exhausted wage slaves who will never afford retirement, and the young are either nihilist consumers in for a rude awakening or radicalized by the internet but lacking political agency. The ideal *should* be to have a spirited, carefree youth but this only works when the adults in charge are actually doing their part to protect and *pass down* the common good.

🚨 KIDS ARE ADDICTED TO THE “FIVE NIGHTS AT EPSTEIN’S” GAME — AND THEY’RE PLAYING IT ON SCHOOL LAPTOPS This isn’t some underground game… it’s spreading fast through schools. Students are playing it DURING CLASS. On district-issued laptops. Right under the school’s nose. And this isn’t a normal game. • Set on Epstein Island • Real names tied to the case • Actual DOJ photos used in-game Kids are treating it like entertainment. Parents are finding out AFTER their children have already seen it… and can’t unsee it. Schools claim they’ve “blocked it”… but students are bypassing filters in seconds with VPNs and proxy sites. So this isn’t a one-off. It’s a system failure happening in real time. If THIS is what kids can access at school… what else is already getting through?

Boyfriend and I stopped paying for insurance for the same reason. It was 300$ a month for my insurance for my meds while my appt and meds cost me 300$ every 2 months. No brainer.
Wall Street Apes@WallStreetApes

American is a healthy 28 year old, he decided to skip paying for health insurance this year because the cheapest plan was $900 per month with a high deductible He had to spend 2 nights in the ER without insurance, he breaks down the bill “This is my receipt from spending 2 days in the hospital: - It totaled about $24,000 - My CT scan alone was $8,300 - Laboratory, 6,000 - IV therapy, $1,020, $4,000 in total And while $24,000 seems like a lot of money, let me show you something. This is what I'm actually paying, $2,478 because when you don't have insurance, these hospitals give you a discount. They discounted $22,000 off of this bill” “But if I had insurance, I wouldn't have gotten that discount. So it would've been a $24,000 bill billed to my insurance, and then my insurance would've said, ‘Hey, you have a $5,000 deductible. You need to pay $5,000 for this last emergency room visit.’ Then you tack on the $900 a month that I'd be paying for that insurance. I'd be paying $20K this year for healthcare. So the craziest part about this is even if I have another hospital visit, by the end of this year, I'm still gonna be paying less than I would if I had insurance. At minimum, my cost for healthcare this year would've been $20,000 with insurance. Right now I'm at $2,400.” US Health Insurance is a scam

a true feminist shaver thinks "I'm shaving because I understand that there are patriarchal repercussions if I don't, and I prefer not to deal with those consequences", not "I shave my legs because I want to <3 I'm just a girl who wants to be soft uwu". the latter is not feminist

this app i have seen gone at women who like to shave body hair, who like to wear pig tails, who like to wear cute bows in their hair. y’all scream we’re doing these things for men while ignoring the fact we do what we want for ourselves. it’s not feminism to be acting like this.

the part they left out: these dogs were stolen for the dog meat trade in Jilin, China. Jilin province has 50+ slaughterhouses. they escaped from a moving truck, formed a defensive formation around an injured german shepherd, and a corgi navigated them 17km home over 2 days. they were all neighborhood dogs who played together every day. they all made it back. China still has no national ban on dog meat, but Shenzhen banned it in 2020.

Seven dogs stolen from their owners have gone viral after escaping their captors and making their way home The group is believed to have travelled around 17 km together led by a corgi across highways and fields

The reality of this situation is... stark, and perhaps with the advent if AI won't matter much anymore. As per usual everyone is eating aella alive for this. It's odd because I do miss a time when it wasn't bad to be "simple" I don't know why but it reminds me of one of my most mind altering experiences when I was working at Barnes and Noble. This mom brought her three kids, all very young, her daughter was about 7 and ages went down from there. She had a trailer park accent. While I was up there organizing books she asked me for help finding books for her daughter. She said the school says her daughter (7) can't read and it's her fault because the mom isn't teaching her. The mom was nearly in tears-- she explains to me that she can't really read either. She reads at a first grade level at best. Regardless she's feverishly sifting through these piles of little books, 3 kids in tow and one on the way, barely able to afford the 5$ books she's looking at. Her being, by many people's definition, "dumb" had no bearing on her character or how much she obviously cared for her daughter. It's truly just the fact of the matter. Idk. That woman's daughter will probably also grow up and say, 'my mama was simple.' Our current culture wants to erase the texture of the world and the struggles of people through stuff like this. People are mad at aella because she used a "mean word" but honestly it can be refreshing when people aren't pretending you're something you're not. That mom was greatly affected by those teachers thinking every parent has the same capabilities. (Not to mention, those teachers were the real idiots, and were likely teaching that garbage reading method that'll leave that little girl illiterate without immediate intervention)
Aella@Aella_Girl

I loved my mom but she was kinda dumb. Going through her stuff after she died, I never found anything reflective in her writing. It was all very factual and simple. The notes from her mom though, man. Brilliant tortured poet. Introspective metaphors, poems, in multiple languages.
