As soon as Ramashankar’s car entered the society gates, the guard stopped him and said:
“Sir, this woman has been wandering around for quite some time now, carrying a letter addressed to your name and address.”
Ramashankar took the letter and examined it; the name and address were indeed his, but when he looked at the woman who had brought it, he did not recognise her.
The letter had been brought by a very poor and frail-looking woman. She was accompanied by a sickly-looking boy.
Seeing their condition, Ramashankar felt a pang of pity. She had likely been searching for his home for a very long time.
He brought them into his home and said, “First, please sit down.” Then, he called out to his servant: “Ramu, bring them some water.”
After drinking the water and feeling relief, the woman asked, “Now, tell me, who is it that you wish to meet?”
“Your father, Devkumar-ji, sent me here. He is a very kind-hearted man. My child here is in a critical condition.
We couldn't get him treated in the village. Please get him admitted to a government hospital so that his life might be saved.
He is my only child,” the woman’s voice choked with emotion as she spoke these words. Her eyes welled up with tears.
Ramashankar accommodated them in the guest room. He instructed his wife to make arrangements for their meals.
The very next day, he summoned their family doctor, had a thorough medical examination conducted, and initiated the treatment.
The woman kept insisting that the treatment be carried out in a government hospital, but Ramashankar paid no heed to her pleas. He ensured that the child received complete and proper medical care.
Once the child had fully recovered and the woman was preparing to return to her village, Ramashankar offered them his heartfelt blessings. The woman expressed her profound gratitude, and the little boy, too, respectfully touched Ramashankar’s feet.
Offering words of comfort, Ramashankar gave her some money and handed her a letter, saying, “Please give this to my father.”
Upon reaching the village, the woman handed the letter to Devkumar-ji and began to sing Ramashankar’s praises:
“Your son is truly a saint! He took such wonderful care of us; he even welcomed us into his own home and ensured the child received proper medical treatment.” Devkumar was left stunned after reading the letter...
It read: “Your son no longer resides at this address... I moved in here only a short while ago. However, please consider me your own son as well. Do not say a word to them. I shall remain eternally grateful to you for the kindness you have shown, for all the blessings and prayers I have received from this gracious mother, thanks to you... Yours, Ramashankar.”
Devkumar’s hands instinctively folded in reverence toward that unknown benefactor.
