This renewed opportunity to transform our understanding of perceptual organization will require closer integration between segmentation experiments and algorithms. The examples discussed in this paper demonstrate encouraging initial steps towards this goal.
Ironically, this has happened at a time in which artificial networks have revolutionized automatic segmentation. Here we direct the spotlight on the convergence between new algorithms and experimental approaches to study segmentation of natural images.

Finally the review on perceptual segmentation you’ve long been waiting for!
Sub-additivity (aka. response normalization) and variability quenching often go hand-in-hand in cortex. Why? We provide some potential answers: rdcu.be/dy1q5 -- a review with @GorisLab@CoenCagli_Lab@kendmil and Nick Priebe.
Please RT: Einstein's department of neuroscience will host EDGE (Einstein Dialogues in Graduate Education), an in-person symposium for senior Ph.D. students on May 8 in NYC. Registration deadline is Feb. 15. More at bit.ly/47t8ANx#postdoc#postdocpositions#postdocjobs
Have ever dreamed about measuring probabilistic segmentation maps of natural images ? Now, it's possible ! journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/a…
Data will be crucial to study segmentation related uncertainty !
@paolo_papale But allow me a light joke, 1st inception loop = hubel wiesel were wrong; 2nd inception loop= barlow and coen-cagli were wrong. I am humbled, thank you (just a joke, not meant as a summary of the paper, no one be offended pls:)
