@heatloss1986 The F-111B (final 1968 config) compared to the F-14 had both longer radius and on-station time, was far easier to bring onboard and could honestly fly a 6-Phoenix mission from a carrier (ie. bring them back). Plus it had the legs & dash to catch up with AV-MF (F6D did not).

@CommandDevTeam The real hot take is that the Missileer would have done the job about as well, potentially better in the case that it ended up having longer mission time than the 111B, which had a longer mission time than the 14A

They shot several boats. It's not significantly cheaper to operate than an F-15E at this point but less capable. Stop it. Let it die. If you want a dedicated attack aircraft, we can have that conversation. The A-10 is not it. It's based on outdated concepts and technology.
