Optimus is already walking at human pace and running in the lab at 7–8 mph with a clean, natural gait.
That’s Gen 2 moving into early Gen 3.
The real vector:
Next 12–24 months: Reliable 10–15+ mph sustained jogging with perfect balance. That’s faster than most humans can maintain.
5–10 years out: Optimus will outrun elite sprinters in practical scenarios not for a few seconds, but for hours. No lactic acid. No overheating muscles. No fatigue. Just relentless, optimized performance.
Why this is inevitable:
Humans are limited by biology. Optimus is not. Better actuators, lighter composites, AI5 chips making real-time gait decisions, and exponential iteration at Tesla mean the speed curve is only going up.
The same vertical integration that made Tesla the king of electric vehicles is now being applied to humanoid robotics. Dojo training + real-world data = rapid leaps in locomotion.
Why it matters:
Speed is just one dimension. But when your general-purpose robot can move faster than any human while never getting tired, the economic impact becomes insane. Factory floors, construction sites, disaster response, elder care everything accelerates.
This is one of the reasons Optimus will be Tesla’s biggest product ever.
No noise. Just the vector.
We are watching a machine evolve past human physical limits in real time. The gap will only widen.
Optimus doesn’t just match us.
It leaves us in the dust.
The future is going to be so good it’s hard to even imagine from here.
That’s the signal.
