"It didn't have to happen. The root of these overdose deaths in San Francisco is homelessness, poverty and racism that has been institutionalized throughout our systems of care.” - Kristen Marshall, @DOPEproject
San Francisco Chronicle@sfchronicle

San Francisco lost a total of 699 people to overdoses last year, a 59% rise from 2019, according to new data released Thursday by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. trib.al/qOMiZCO

"'Folks are left out of systems of care by design. That means we utilize individual relationships to get stuff done,' Kristen Marshall of @DOPEproject said. That reality 'kills people. It runs workers into the ground. It’s not sustainable.'" filtermag.org/naloxone-narca…

We recently had the pleasure of speaking w/ @DOPEproject team about what to do & say after you've used naloxone to reverse an overdose from opioids. A medical emergency like an overdose is traumatic & we can support ppl returning to consciousness with kindness & without judgment.

A lot of really important and interesting myth-busting studies, articles, and papers have been released lately about people who sell drugs. Here's a thread highlighting them and some key themes (1/?)

From marijuana to opioids, we have seen over & over again that the violence & criminalization of the War on Drugs causes more harm to communities than drugs themselves. It's time to start healing those harms.
ACLU of Northern CA@ACLU_NorCal

For the first time in its history, Congress is voting on a bill to end marijuana prohibition. Marijuana should be decriminalized, and reparative funds should go to POC communities most harmed by the war on drugs. thehill.com/blogs/congress…

If you happen to be away from your own naloxone device, you should be able to shout “Hey, does anyone have some naloxone?” and have the answer reasonably be “Yes, of course.” slate.com/technology/202… via @slate

SFPD reversed nearly 150 overdoses this year. Meanwhile, people who use drugs, who are our city's most successful first responders, have reversed 2,600+. sfbayca.com/2020/11/14/sf-…
