I think that when ot comes to powerscaling, the philosophical logic of fictionalism should be used, Powerscaling should be a consequence of analyzing the story as a whole first

Applying real-life physics formulas while ignoring other physics inconsistencies because "the author didn't think of it" is hypocrisy. It's picking and choosing when author intent matters.

Nothing can be lightspeed, its the speed at which causality acts in our universe. Only stuff with warpdrive/wormholes would be 50% fine

@ImNotThatGloomy Authors generally don't care, because in the grand scheme of things it doesn't actually matter for storytelling purposes. It's powerscalers who treat these "feats" too seriously, as if there was science behind any of it. 90% of the time, there isn't.

Mike Galleghan wrote sonic as faster than light, but Ian Flynn described him and wrote him as a being vaguely over Mach 1 in his archie runs

Does the story ever says that the character is ftl? They have feats that a casual reader could catch as such speed?
Does that remain consistent with the rest of mentions?
Does the story work with a ftl character?

@ImNotThatGloomy Alot of stories don't stop to think about the implications, so when a story says that someone is ftl, thats just it sometimes
The problem is when they assume that characters are ftl only based on vibes ("dodge a laser gun!") i bet most autors see those as just cool PG-13 bullets
