@TchrFinlyWrites Agents usually ask for 1–2 pages, single spaced. Some ask for one page, so it’s easier on you if you can get it down to one and send that version out to everyone. One page single spaced is about 500 words. Get the narrative arc and leave out the details.

What is standard for a synopsis? I see 500 words, 800 words, or even 1,500 words! I'm struggling to shrink it down to the appropriate word count for a query. #writingq #WritingCommunity

@nr_wolfman It’s common advice because it shows you have realistic expectations. Also, aim for comps that were published in the last 3 years, books yours would sit next to on the shelf. This helps the agent sell it to the publisher by showing the current market for stories like yours.

@DrBradJohnson @theresagaughan I used to sub at a school where the principal did this, and literally every teacher had put theirs on their computer or the bulletin board by their desk. One was in the pencil drawer, front and center.

Principals, stock up on Post-it notes for fall! When you visit classrooms, leave a post-it note on their desk telling them how lucky their students are to have them & share something you learned or enjoyed about the visit. I call them "Post-its of Praise"

I have no idea how to query my new adult novel. I know some agents don’t like or recognize NA, but the book is slightly mature for YA (not because of spice btw) and the protagonist is 18. Any insights? #askagents #mswl #amquerying

@DetailedDraft Oh, I know, I've had a million not captivateds already. But like, the impossibility of this process is maddening. I've been told a hundred times the writing is there and the premise is interesting. What the hell else can I do?

I just recevied a rejection from an agent I was referred to by another author, and it said my writing is skillful, the plot is interesting, the query is good, and the subject matter is selling - but they weren't captivated. OMG I QUIT. HELP #amquerying #WritingCommunity
