Something I noticed.

It's happening again.

A train is coming down a track. Everyone on Earth has the choice to either tie themselves to the track, or not. If more than 50% of people choose to tie themselves to the track, the train turns around and doesn't run them over. Yes or no - do you tie yourself to the track?

"Would you be willing to push a button?" "Ah, sure I guess." "Would you be willing to jump into this giant blender? Don't worry, I promise you magically won't get hurt, so it's functionally identical to pressing a button." "...No?" "Ahh ha! I got you!"

if red is the sane default, blue pushers recklessly endanger themselves over nothing if blue is the sane default, red pushers defect for personal gain hate to break it to you but there's no sane default here. it's all in your head

The goal is to eliminate the idea that the red button has any active role.

Everyone on earth takes a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press? BE HONEST.

What red button pushers might not understand is that what they perceive as "virtue signaling" is people intentionally applying social pressure to achieve pro-social outcomes. It's not purely narcissistic, there is a real purpose to it.
