#otd in 1884 Richard Parker, a 17-year-old cabin boy was killed so the remaining crew of the shipwrecked Mignonette could survive on his blood and body. The crew had been at sea in an open boat for 20 days with only two tins of dry turnips, one turtle, and no fresh water.
