Being queer in the Philippines isn’t always Rainbows and Glitter.
It means navigating chismis in the workplace, side-eyes from Marites in every family reunion, and that constant mental checklist: Is this person a real ally or just polite but quietly judgmental?
Sometimes, the kindness we receive comes with strings. People who love us for our style, our wit, our flair, but stop short of standing with us when it really matters.
It’s the classic “I’m okay with gays, basta hindi sa anak ko” energy.
Polite homophobia is still homophobia.
But despite all that, we continue to thrive. We show up, we shine, and we take up space.
Because queerness is not just a vibe. It’s resistance.
It’s choosing to be authentic in a society that still tries to make us small.
