Clarification: There is no legal requirement for someone on a bike to use a painted bike lane, especially if it invites dangerous close passes from entitled drivers who haven't looked at the HWC since they got their licence.

Funny how motorists think and believe that if there is a cycling lane that they can pass these cyclist “safely and legally” in this situation. I’m thankful and appreciative that the first motor vehicle behind the cyclists knows better.

@RayMairead This is why education matters. Cyclists can legally ride two abreast and it's often safer to do so. Drivers must allow 1.5m+ clearance to overtake safely. Ignorance of the Highway Code goes both ways, but impatient passes can be death traps.
