Our sin and uncertainty, our self-reliance and self-worship, are all reminders that God is still carrying on the good work within us that he started, a good work that he has promised to finish. gcdiscipleship.com/article-feed/a…

Dear Journal, Just the other day, we made our move into a new home. Just about everything we own is now tucked cozily and beautifully inside of our 650-700 square foot patch of ground on planet earth—and we love it!🧵

Our realities often leave us discouraged, bored, or disillusioned with Christianity, and we can’t figure out how to align our God-given desires for intimacy with Jesus with the most honest question of our hearts: Is this all there is to the Christian life?

The Christian life involves dance, not drudgery. When the Scriptural attributes of the Christian life are vibrant, soul-satisfying traits like joy and peace, it’s troublesome to hear so few believers describe their spiritual experience in the same terms.🧵

In the end, the true legacy of Saint Patrick is not the banishment of serpents, the shamrock, or even a green river. It is the testimony of a man who believed that God could use a reluctant, unpolished, once-enslaved believer to bear witness. buff.ly/aGbZ29V

The door to our apartment stood open, as friends toted boxes and furniture through swirling January snow, and it was into this bustling scene that this woman saw her opening.

“I need emergency help. I need emergency help. I need emergency help.” A small woman stood in the center of my living room repeating this phrase over and over. I was 22, and my new husband had taken a pastoral position at an inner-city church plant in New York’s Southern Tier.🧵

Preaching sermons that honor Jesus and build up his church may mean preaching sermons that some consider boring. But to others—including God himself—they will be the aroma of life to life. buff.ly/rK2vPE8

We tend to focus on the other marvelous descriptions of Christ (“Mighty God,” “Prince of Peace”) that we may miss this very meaningful dimension of Christ’s messianic ministry to us.

A description of the Messiah that we may not regularly emphasize comes from the famous Christmas passage in Isaiah 9:6: “And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor.”🧵
