OTTI - A LEADER WITH DEEP ECONOMIC FORESIGHT Some months ago, the news broke that the Abia State Government had concluded the full acquisition of two key companies - Star Paper Mills Ltd and Afro Beverages Ltd both in Aba. Justifying the move, Governor Alex Otti made it clear that a fundamental part of his governance strategy is the reactivation of moribund industries to help create jobs, reduce unemployment and improve the economic outlook of the state. He also said then that the idea was not for the state to run these companies but to acquire them, derisk them and return them to the private sector for proper running as commercial concerns. When these things happened, I recall that several people including some self styled experts questioned this move. Some of them even said that it was a ploy to siphon public funds. But Otti insisted. Since that day, a lot of activities have been taking place behind the scene in this direction. Several companies and individuals have been coming to indicate their interest in taking over these companies. A lot of selection processes have been on. One of these companies is NEPAL ENERGY LIMITED, one of the top players in the nation's oil and gas sector. They indicated their interest in taking over Afro Beverages. According to the CEO of the company, Barrister Mrs Ekeoma, they are encouraged to diversify into manufacturing because of the very conducive environment provided by the Governor. They had come several times and have done their due diligence and now have presented a definite proposal. NEPAL ENERGY has a strong pedigree and there is no doubt that Afro Beverages will soon bounce back to life and create jobs for our people. This is exactly what Governor Otti saw when he made that move months ago. More are coming. Jobs! Jobs!! Jobs!!! Ururu Aja.
