What do the Manny Machado defenders see that everyone else doesn't? Dude is an all-world talent no doubt but Father Time stands undefeated. 1/3 of the season completed .178 batting average. Did anyone watch Manny try to leg out a ground ball the other night? Painful to watch.

The Padres are the only team in the MLB who would pay a young player 100M+ dollars without actually knowing if he is going to be a competent hitter or not. Not fully giving up on Jackson yet but this is awful....he needs a full reset in the minors I think. He isnt close.

This is enough to make someone like Luis Arraez much less effective, but it's not responsible for us having half the lineup hit under .200 Also it's an above average park for HR now

What would be a reason to fire a hitting coach? Assuming there is one. I would say a full year like this is probably a reason? I dunno. It’s hard to make the argument that they just don’t matter at all if you have one. There is something consistent with the roster here that makes them not hit. There’s also ballpark stuff. The Giants haven’t had 30 home runs since Bonds…? That’s hard to believe that’s all hitting coach? Multiple World Series in that stretch BTW. But it’s a good question..? What’s the purpose of a hitting coach? It’s not nothing.

I get “blaming the hitting coach” is the easy way out and it’s on the players. Also, Souza is a first time hitting coach; first time coaching at all. When every player is having their worst season, even if they back up Souza, at some point a new voice may help… @thestevenwoods
