@ThePhDPlace An "acceptable output" (i.e incredible) is finishing your PhD. The papers will come with it.

Academia will replace you in an instant, your family and friends will never replace you. Remember this when you decide to skip a birthday for an experiment.

"I can't have lunch because of the experiments". When did we become robots? How is it possible that academia owns us to the point of prioritizing the experiments over our own health? #toxicacademia #academia #science

I really don't understand this society... A society where anything that doesn't look like you, does not deserve to be represented. Please share, and always fight for diverse games where everyone is represented. I stand by all the #gamedevelopers that make these games possible!

Academics don't leave academic research. They leave the academic system: politics, schmoozing, appeasing people in power, abuse, harassment, credit stealing, big egos, university bureaucracy, Reviewer 2 @academic_exit @ProfessorIsIn

I was reading 2023 Nobel laureate Katalin Kariko's book, Breaking Through. She was brutally honest about the academic system in US. And, here is an example section from her book.

The way people excuse bad behavior in academia is one of the hardest things to grapple with. “Oh, that’s just how he is” “They didn’t mean it like that” Or worse… [SILENCE] This culture where people are reluctant to hold each other accountable is debilitating.

Growing up poor or working-class, makes people more creative and industrious. When you can’t afford to buy expensive things you create new things to solve problems. We need those unique perspectives and to pave a way for those individuals to be debt-free and successful here.
Academic Chatter™@AcademicChatter

The lack of working-class representation in academia is not just an issue of fairness – it limits the scope and depth of research. Diversity drives innovation.

How many women out there always had normal blood tests but knew something was wrong? Is this #pcos ? Please tell me I'm not the only one who is gaining weight in a calorie deficit all my life, for every doctor to tell me that everything is normal. #WomensHealthMatters #helpless

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if you're in academia, there's a decent chance you're in a toxic workplace. There is far too much tolerance for shady behavior within academia. Commenters, back me up here: raise your hand if you've witnessed toxicity in academia.

@ZJAyres I agree with this! Unfortunately, most of the time, we don't have the power to decide. I remember going for the first time to LA, and I didn't even get the chance to visit any of it, because we arrived and left the day the conference started and ended 😓
