Can I rant at you for a minute? You know what grinds my gears? When I get emails from PR places selling INSPIRATIONAL National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) articles in October featuring a company that hired one disabled person and then wants praise. No. I'm not praising you for doing what you're supposed to do in finding the right candidate. And I'm definitely not inspired. The unemployment rate for someone with disabilities is 65%. It's around 23% for everyone else. The reason for this is largely because companies don't want the expense of accommodations or straight up don't believe disabled people are equally qualified. The idea of NDEAM is to remind companies and industries disabled people are just as capable as anyone else and should be hired accordingly. If your entire article is "This ONE company hired this ONE disabled person, and it's so inspirational to see them working!" your article is gross, and I want nothing to do with it. It's not inspirational to see a disabled person working. We want money for bills, rent, and pizza, just like everyone else.
