Exactly. Plus:
- caving to threats sets a precedent and invites further demands.
- damages your credibility with customers and end-users.
Overall, succumbing to this kind of pressure is bad for business. Just look at the Big Law firms.

Anthropic/DoD situation: On surface, may seem obvious for VCs to want @DarioAmodei to cave. More revenue. But also an argument that, by caving, Anthropic risks becoming too reliant on govt revenue/partner that could be politically fickle. And maybe a pariah if things go bad.

Anthropic appears to be holding firm. They don't want the possibility of their tech used for mass surveillance and don't think Claude or any frontier AI systems are reliable enough for fully automated weapons.

Then the Pentagon demanded that Anthropic agree to power the mass surveillance of Americans. Or else.

Seems like the admin wants _so badly_ to conduct mass surveillance on Americans, that they are willing to shout publicly about how mean Anthropic is for not letting them do it. Or maybe the admin wants to intimidate us into knowing we could be mass surveilled. Either seems bad
