@JamesTactics Welcome back James! Missed your tweets. Sacking Amorim was the final nail in the coffin for me supporting this club since 2004. I haven't watched a single game since. I think about the possibilities under Amorim if only they gave him time & it boils my blood every time.

Saying sacking Amorim was important for “culture rescue” when multiple key players (Dalot, Amad, Mbeumo, Bruno and even Berrada) all said he was extremely important for the culture and the fundamentals Carrick got results on is one of the laziest takes I read about his sacking. We should thank Ruben Amorim for saving this club. Did way more behind the scenes than every other manager post-SAF put together.
Walter Ude@Udewalter_

Sacking Ruben Amorim back in January wasn't just about results it was a culture rescue. The fact that Michael Carrick took that exact same squad, stabilized the structure, and finished 3rd proves tactics mean nothing if you can't communicate with the dressing room. Carrick has earned the right to build this team in his own image.

@JamesTactics Errrr……what did he do ? ……that was good ? I can give you a list of the bad things if you wish. What did he he do for “ the culture” 😂. How can your brain turn a disaster into a triumph ? Fascinating !

@Stretford_End12 @Udewalter_ It wasn’t Amorim who said he needs 3 years, it was SJR who said that publicly just before sacking him later because he called out Wilcox. So there goes your argument.

@JamesTactics @Udewalter_ Or maybe that was the final straw? A big blow causes a working relationship to become untenable. The fact he comes out saying he needs 3 years is a major sign he’s not coping with the job. And you said elsewhere he’d produced the best attacking team in the league. If that was in

@Utdbeni That narrative is so stupid. Amorim wasn’t even sacked due to results

@Udewalter_ So the board only lost confidence in him after Amorim coincidentally called Wilcox out? Not 2 months before when they said he needs 3 years?

This is a false dichotomy. Whether or not he laid tactical foundations doesn't change the fact that his management style was fundamentally incompatible with the club's structure. You can acknowledge his underlying contributions while still recognizing that his inability to work with the board and his erratic personnel choices made his position untenable. The dressing room support argument is irrelevant when the board loses faith in the manager’s long term vision and communication.

That’s fine, but let’s not rewrite history. He engineered his own sacking because things weren’t clicking with Wilcox, and the board preferred a yes-man. Stats back up that United was improving in a rapid pace under Amorim, and even results were picking up before AFCON. He got sacked with 3 points from top 4 & a dressing room who loved him, and were surprised and disappointed when he got sacked? Carrick steadied the ship & simplified things, but he had very good fundamentals laid out by Amorim to build upon. There’s no point in acting like Carrick did everything on his own & downplay Amorim’s importance only bc he called out Wilcox.

I’m really not on board with the sentiment that he saved the club. While some players might have spoken highly of him, the culture he supposedly built didn't translate into the consistency or identity we actually need to be seeing on the pitch. Being important behind the scenes is one thing, but results are what define a Manchester United manager, and frankly, he wasn't delivering when it mattered most. I think moving on from him was the right call to actually move the club forward.

We were actually making a lot of improvements & were one of the best (if not the best) attacking sides in the league. Stats back this up as well. It was when AFCON started that the football aspect started to dip imo. He was sacked because he engineered his own sacking & things weren’t gelling with Wilcox. I don’t think it was bc of his football. What’s done is done though, but we gotta give credit where credits is due. Amorim left the club & the dressing room in a way better place than where he found it

@JamesTactics Agree with the cultural aspect, without a doubt. However football wise it was a nightmare and we needed a change.

This is so lazy. In the Premier League he had Casemiro & Mainoo who’s job is simply to give the ball to Bruno. And even in Amorim’s system every attack went through him. Also better attackers to create for. Against Congo, every build-up went through Vitinha & Bernardo/Neto were shit.
ThePortugueseXI@PortugalFPF

Bruno Fernandes didn't create a single chance in 90 minutes against Congo. Bruno created 133 chances in the Premier Leaguet this season Bruno Fernandes is a GHOST when it comes to his national team.
