Probably the proudest day ever today to see what the team @wearehappydoggo have been working on and rolling out in stages. Apologies for the voice but I had to get out of my sick bed to come and see this… 🐕 The start of our government partnerships sterilizing dogs at scale. All around Samui for the next 3 weeks and the moving to rural Thailand. ✂️ I can explain the amount of planning that goes into this for training staff, licenses, permits and general logistics and safety planning etc. 🇹🇭 What I especially love is that apart from me it was 100% Thai staff and Thai community there today. This is how we will fix the problem. Locals bringing their dogs in. 🎯 The dog catching and darting team are my heroes. Getting those dogs in is exceptionally hard. 💵 There is absolutely no cost for the community. Many of these people are low income community who just can’t afford the care. Having their dogs sterilized is a game changer. For those who support us this is what we can do. 100s of puppies stopped today. People who follow us @wearehappydoggo love the rescues and the retirement village and the food and the makeovers where dogs have comebacks. But this today is why we really do it. These mobile units will go on to save 1000s of lives this year working on a daily basis in rural Thailand. I’ll make sure even if we start on a local basis like this soon you’ll see this all over Thailand and the world. The dogs need this ❤️

The govt's Student Loan Plan 2 repayment freeze in April 2027 must be reversed. It isn't moral. I'm concerned that my debate with Kemi Badenoch this morning distracts from the most immediate problem. In April 2027 Rachel Reeves will freeze the Plan 2 student loan threshold until 2030 which by then will increase graduate repayments by £300/yr more. This is effectively a unilateral negative breach of the student loan contract. Students were told the threshold would rise with average earnings. No commercial lender would be allowed to do this. The govt shouldn't do it either. Changing the terms of future students loans is a political decision - people may not like it but it is transparent. Negatively changing the terms of contracts already signed, and long in place, is a breach of natural justice.

The High Court has ruled the proscription of Palestine Action was unlawful. Today, human rights won. Today, we all won. The Court was clear: the Home Secretary can’t reach for the nuclear option simply because it makes policing easier. The government must recognise the huge damage the proscription has caused to protest rights in the UK, respect today’s decision, and accept the proscription was wrong. The govt has today agreed a charter with the big broadband and mobile players - I've been told this is in part a response to the letter I wrote to the Chancellor about O2's price hike on a price hike. Here is my official quote... “I am cautiously optimistic that the 'Telecoms Consumer Charter' is an improvement within the narrow range of issues it addresses. It should mean more people are aware of social tariffs, and we are less likely to see a repeat of O2’s ‘price hike on a price hike’, where customers were told at sign-up how much prices would rise by mid-contract, only to be told later they would by hiked even more. That ran roughshod over Ofcom’s supposed protections. Yet the Charter still frustratingly leaves two glaring gaps in Ofcom’s flaccid rules unaddressed. Both effectively embed above-inflation mid-contract price hikes into the mobile and broadband system – the very mischief the reforms were meant to fix. 1. Transparency doesn’t stop price rises. Firms that follow the rules now simply have to tell customers, in pounds and pence, how much prices will rise by mid-contract. While that improves clarity, it does nothing to limit the size of the increase. In many cases, customers have seen bigger rises under this system than under the old inflation-linked model. 2. ‘Variable pricing’ remains a loophole. Sky continues to operate using a variable pricing structure, meaning customers can face mid-contract price changes, albeit with the right to leave within 30 days of notification. Yet in practice, many people only notice the increase once it hits their bill, not when the notification arrives – making that protection far less effective than it appears. A simple fix… I don’t understand why we don’t grasp what is by far the simplest and most effective solution: ban firms from increasing prices above inflation during a fixed-term contract. Do that, and the job’s done.”
