Glimmers of hope! Meanwhile, Austin passes a homelessness plan that’s 100% focused on the needs of mentally ill vagrants and 0% on the needs of those unlucky enough to live/work near hotspots of homeless activity. But grateful for any sign of sanity, anywhere. 🙏

In @CityJournal, I profile three Democratic-led cities (San Francisco, San Jose, and Philadelphia) which are doing sensible things about crime and drugs and finding that voters appreciate it (even if activists don't). city-journal.org/article/democr…

@sfexaminer What in the world? There are “drug-tolerant” housing facilities? They should be zero tolerance. And jail as the consequence for using. People cannot be allowed to use drugs that make them violent and insane and certainly not on the city’s dime.

The proposal would allow San Francisco’s permanent housing facilities to require that their residents stay sober — or face eviction.

No coincidence that dissatisfaction with Democrats coincides with the rise of Progressivism/Socialism amongst their Party.
The Democrats’ permissive stance on crime and urban dysfunction (which includes total fealty to public sector unions) has pushed millions of people away, myself included.
The best thing the Democrats can do is tack to the center and force the DSA types out. Democrats are not Socialists and Socialists are not Democrats.

@elneurozorro @TheATX1 Bike lanes do not make a place world class. Being able to easily get to all the clubs, venues, businesses, theaters and restaurants, not to mention the state government from every part of Austin makes it great. This makes it all so much harder. 😣
English

@KateWalker15 @TheATX1 Hard disagree. This is the core of downtown and it makes sense to build a world class walking and biking experience.
The disruptions to car traffic are temporary anyways, the main thing being removed is on street parking which there was so few of nobody could count on it anyways

@elneurozorro @TheATX1 Are the restaurant owners along Congress clamoring for expanded outdoor seating areas? Was it their idea? Will their businesses be negatively impacted when customers find it too difficult to get the restaurants? Congress Ave was easy access via AV and car. Now it’s a headache. 😭

@KateWalker15 @TheATX1 This will also allow for expanded seating for restaurants and other activations
