Here is what is going to happen…. Trump’s supporters will become convinced, whether it is true or not, that the assassination attempt was an inside job. It will be a shibboleth and an artefact of devotion to the cult of MAGA that this must be believed. Trump will then use this as validation to go after political opponents. It will get nasty. The more it is denied the more it will be believed. Trump will use it as a pretext to activate his dismantling of the administrative state. Chaos will ensue… he will seize the opportunity to impose order via martial law. The Christian right will see this as a good thing and will join ad hoc vigilante groups. These groups will be allowed by the new trump loyal militia to go unchecked and they will be given immunity from prosecution and will be told that any violence they commit will be deemed self defence. A new legal defence will be inculcated by judicial precedent called “defence of country”. It will be verified by the hard right supreme court. State apparatus will be summarily and systematically dismantled as they are not loyal to trump. Trump’s militia will slowly replace the military, FBI, CIA, NSA. The hard right will rejoice. The left will be powerless to stop it. Looting will erupt and be met with consequence free, extra judicial killings. The civil war will have started before anyone realises. It will not resemble a civil war, but more, a break down of society in general. It will happen over years. If you think this sounds extreme, watch what happens in the comments to this. Trumpists will fail to see the problem with any of this.
