It's weird right, cause this Nier thing is far from the first game preservation project for a Japanese title. Side7 comes to mind for Gundam Evolution, and that got literally 0 pushback from anyone. I'm hoping the Japanese people can loosen up a bit (lol like that's possible)

Where do people get these ideas? Reverse engineering is the legal method to reimplement code without violating copyright. Decompiling is prefectly legal. Not even a question. And there's no legal limit on publishing the research. Doesn't even get trade secret protections because you did your own research. The only way to limit it in the US is under a national security order. They tried that with asymmetric key encryption in the 90's and just gave up because it was impossible to enforce.

It’s so hypocritical since Square Enix have lost the source code to many of their older games like Final Fantasy Tactics and relied on these same fans that Japanese fans are criticizing. Game preservation will always be better than corporations and their “wishes”.

There's such a different response to this from Japanese fans and everyone else, most people are happy about a dead game being brought back by the community. But I've seen a bunch of Japanese fans angry about this because it goes against the wishes of Square Enix.

Never ceases to amaze me how stupid and brazen idiots on motorcycles get when they’re the most vulnerable people on the road. I’ve seen so many videos of bikers brake checking trucks on the highway and I don’t get it. I wish that Amazon driver had bowled a strike here.

I think a weird consequence of the ready availability of pornography is that it has allowed people to compartmentalize their sexuality away from the rest of their lives/tastes. Thus, we have a ton of folks who act absolutely repulsed by even the most vanilla hint of titillation in the mainstream who then go jerk off to “Big Dick Black Tranny Stepmom Cumflation Ageplay Femdom BDSM BNWO Giant Buttplug Cuckold Painal Compilation” in private. The sexual revolution, in some ways, ate itself. It gave people such open access to sexual content that they no longer have to integrate sexuality it into their public identity at all. The thing that concerns me about this is that we have no honest discussions about sexuality in our society. We have only puritanical conversations from the perspective of moralist morons, and horny conversations advanced by porn and gooning. The cost of living in a society where it’s normal to fail to integrate one’s sexuality into one’s broader personality is that we don’t have nuanced conversations on topics of human sexuality or any of the real issues of substance that such topics impact.
