My heart is broken for our girls, but so happy for UCLA. Our team has accomplished so much this season and overcome things that most people don’t even realize. What happened to us last game was unfair and hurtful and no one in our program or the UConn players deserved that. UCLA played a fantastic game, and their body of work, consistently playing and beating real competition, in retrospect, should have had them in that #1 spot all year. Things work out how they should and the cream rises to the top. UCLA dominated the second and third best teams in the country and it takes a certain kind of excellence to completely throw those kinds of programs off in the way both South Carolina and Texas were. I absolutely adore Lauren Betts and Gabby Jaquez and can’t wait to see what they accomplish at the next level. It has also been a pleasure to watch some of my other favorites in Madison Booker and Rori Harmon, as well as Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong, all wonderful young women who have so much to be proud of. Congratulations to the UCLA players, coaches, and fanbase, and the same to the Texas players, coaches, and fanbase (It Just Means More), as well as the UConn players on the success you have enjoyed this year. Gamecock women’s basketball owns my whole heart, and it it breaks to know how these young women and our coaches will be treated by those who move in bad faith, who do not love and/or represent the University of South Carolina, or whose teams weren’t able to come out on top of us, after this game. To the fanbases of the teams who did take wins from us this year - UCLA, Texas, and OU, thank you for moving with class and integrity, and respect for these young women and the game of women’s basketball. Congratulations to UCLA - and thank you, Gamecocks, for how you represent my alma mater. Every one of our players and coaches exemplifies class, leadership, excellence, and grace in victory or the rare defeat. Keep your heads held high, Raven, Ta’Niya, Maryam, Madina, Chloe, Tessa, Joyce, Maddy, Adhel, Agot, Ayla, and Ali. You are our pride and joy. No other team besides UCLA made it to this stage. Excited for what the future brings for this team and our departing seniors. FOREVER TO THEE, @GamecockWBB 🤙♥️🐓
