Action must be taken to end overcrowding, long waits & delayed discharges.
It is what clinicians need & patients deserve.

Our Emergency Department is there to save the lives of those with life-threatening injuries or illnesses where time is critical.
If your condition is less serious you may be asked to seek treatment in another setting, like an Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).

Anyone got a good discitis pathway? Are there any dedicated national guidelines - have the spinal/neurosurgeons got one hidden away like they did with #CES? 😉 Anyone else seeing this diagnosis more commonly than before the pandemic? (? Is it associated w/ ⬇️ dental health?)

Follow on question. Also a poor but sadly too real choice (accepting that none of these are ok). Please RT if u answer. If you or your relative required hospital admission and were acutely sick (not ICU sick), been treated in ED & long waits for a bed would you rather be in?

@jim_crawfurd Absolutely, we also extend this rule to coroner's statement requests and AER(Datex) statements- all via consultant supervisor. Reduce unnecessary angst where possible.

2/2 In our department we insist that complaints are sent to the consultants not the junior doctors, so that they avoid that panic of reading it on their own.

As a junior doctor, if you get sent a complaint, discuss it ASAP with your supervisor/another senior. It is natural to panic, and the reassurance of having someone say that it’s all fixable is immense. 1/2
