@DeepHumor They can’t delete the information after because then there’s no way to prove they were compliant with the law if they get sued! That data is stored. Not to mention that information can be intercepted even if it was a temp scan. It’s all so infuriating

You won’t believe how many people defend Roblox’s age verification by saying “but they said they would delete my selfie after checking it!” So… you’re just taking their word for it? 🤦♂️

Before you do the Roblox age check, it’s worth noting that @withpersona, the company handling the verification is currently being sued over how it manages data and their privacy practices

THIS IS WHY BIG TECH SUPPORTS THESE "CHILD SAFETY" LAWS BTW. They give cover to collect even MORE data on everyone, including children, and yet morons are out here talking about how it will "protect children."

For everyone parroting the Apple “we don’t want to give our IDs/birth certificates to Apple” talking point, here’s just a taste of what it says it already collects. Please note that this doesn’t include all of the data it collected from Siri for over a decade w/o users’ consent that consumers’ sued Apple over. So, if Apple is telling folks that it needs more data to comply with ASAA, then it is likely signaling that it plans to maliciously comply with the law to collect more data than it needs, plain and simple. It doesn’t need more data, Apple, of course, is hiding behind a faux privacy argument to scare you into letting it continue to hurt your children. That goes double for Google.

We applaud Governor Hochul for calling for strong, consistent online safety protections in New York and for outlining sensible priorities for legislation.
Several of the Governor’s priorities, including default-off settings for minors and parental controls, are safeguards we have already implemented on Roblox. Another, advanced age verification, is currently being rolled out globally. Estimating the age of users who want to communicate on Roblox helps limit kids to chatting with other kids, not unknown adults by default.
We also go further in key areas of online safety. For example, we do not allow users to send each other images or videos on our platform. This work is ongoing, and we know no system is perfect, so we continue to strengthen protections to help keep users safe, as well as working to educate parents about online safety.
While the legislative process is just beginning in New York, we are supportive of the Governor’s online safety initiative and the priorities she has outlined. We look forward to reviewing the details of the proposal and working collaboratively on these efforts to make the digital world safer for children.
