The Netherlands built a healthy Nationalism pursuing the impossible mission of reclaiming the North Sea. Such feats of environmental engineering are impressive and should be looked at to remind us that anything is possible. It is only when placed in a corner that out of this world creativity will be tapped into for delivering the innovation required. This is why all breakthroughs come from the fringes. Through acting not out of need or want but because you have to. When there is no other choice you are free. Free because you know what you must do. Environmental engineering occupies the same thought space as going to Mars. Sounds like a cool idea. But who is going to fund it. Unless it is immediately critical to survival then the environment can just continue to be degraded because 99% of people won't see it or hear about it. Scientists inform us that we have done "irreparable" damage to ecosystems. I say they need to think bigger. It is 2024 and not only can we now land a rocket and re-use it, that innovation led to a valuable service which is being used to fund Elon's mission of making life multi-planetary. To repair the "irreparable" presents the challenge of experimenting from observation and action. The Dutch just started building shit and figured it out along the way. These days I can imagine the sciencism practioners delaying the project as they play petty power games to exercise a feeling of power over the brave souls and beautiful minds in which they envy. To avoid such interactions any lofty environmental engineering will need to be privately funded. The scientists will preach that the costs to undertake such monumental projects are prohibitively expensive. That is based off the government model. And as Elon has demonstrated, the cost can be reduced significantly, in his case by a factor of 22. So all that stands in the way is the realisation that you HAVE to do it. If that is so, the way forth will reveal itself.
