One week to the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Spain — the biggest stage in world triathlon. I’m the only Pakistani to qualify, but I can’t travel because I’m on the passport control list. I’m not involved in politics — I’m an athlete, and my only goal is to represent Pakistan with pride. 🇵🇰

The hearing of Shahrez Khan is scheduled for today. At issue is not merely the question of physical or judicial remand, but the broader & graver concern of the erosion of constitutionally guaranteed civil liberties for private citizens of Pakistan. Shahrez Khan is a full-time professional & an accomplished athlete, with no political affiliations whatsoever. Since May 2023, he has traveled abroad more than 15 times and has never been stopped, questioned, charged, or named in any investigation. During the week of May 9, he was in Chitral with his family, along with twelve friends & their children. Notwithstanding the availability of multiple witnesses & verifiable evidence, he was unlawfully taken from the sanctity of his private residence, in front of his two minor daughters aged 6 & 1.5 years, without an arrest warrant, without disclosure of the authority effecting the arrest, and without being informed of the reason for his detention. His youngest had her first day of school without her baba while his older daughter celebrated her birthday without the baba who had planned it for months with her. Are milestones & memories to be etched in shadows rather than light? Similarly, Shershah Khan had been traveling freely in & out of Pakistan & voluntarily returned to the country. He was not wanted in any case, had no notices pending against him, & was never declared an absconder. The attempt to characterize him as a fugitive, runaway, or individual in hiding is factually & legally untenable, simply amounts to deliberate misrepresentation. The handling of the events of May 9 must be subject to transparency, fairness, & adherence to due process. To pursue these matters through selective targeting, political vendettas, or extra-legal measures constitutes a perversion of justice & undermines the very seriousness of the incidents under scrutiny.

Alhamdulillah, Shahrez’s further physical remand was rejected today & bail filed. With the legal arguments & ample evidence, justice should have meant his discharge. Please continue to raise your voice!

We have sufficient irrefutable evidence that Shahrez was in Chitral on 9 May 2023 and hence has been falsely implicated in FIR 96/2023. His remand hearing at ATC Lahore is tomorrow and we will put this all on the record before the Court and seek his release InshAllah.

Putting an honourable man in chains simply because of the family he belongs to should be unacceptable to every Pakistani.

6 days since my husband, Shahrez Khan, was abducted at gunpoint from our home in front of our little daughters. An innocent man is being targeted in the political victimisation of his family. Pls speak up so he is released on Saturday. His girls are waiting.

My husband Shahrez Khan was not a part of the 9th May protest at Jinnah House Lahore. He was not even in Lahore; we were 750 km away at my family home in Chitral with a dozen of our friends and children. This time stamped photograph is from 9th May 2023.
