My mother-in-law kept posting photos of my kids online. I told her: “No pics of them on Facebook. We don’t do that.” She’d say “But grandma rights! They’re so cute.” Then post anyway. I didn’t blow up at her. Because my spouse said: “She just wants to share. Delete them yourself.” So I bought a nanny cam disguised as a picture frame for my living room. Next visit, I set it up, let the kids play, and left for groceries. Came back, checked the footage. At 2:14 p.m., she pulled out her phone, posed the kids, took 20 pics, then cropped out me in the background before posting. Caption: “My babies 😍” No privacy settings. I saved the clip to 3 drives before talking to my spouse. No yelling. Just hit play. Turns out she’d been posting my niece’s pics too. I was just the first who filmed her doing it. She agreed to take them down + ask permission first. And somehow… I’m the one family calls “controlling.” Apparently, in my in-laws’ world, kids are public property. But recording her ignore my boundary? That makes me the bad guy.
