Hard evidence that #ENO should continue to receive subsidy solely on the basis of its economic impact and ability to magnify public funds. Here's evidence for the case from the Salzburg Festival: bit.ly/3tuC8bY @stuartmurphy100, @E_N_O

I hate that I actually felt the need to tweet this, but appreciate that this has resonated with people. If you’ve not yet signed the petition to save @E_N_O and keep them in their London home, The Coliseum, please do: change.org/p/reinstate-th…

St Leonard’s Church, Hythe, a majestic #JAMvenue filled with memories, serves as a home for #music and #art in #JAMontheMarsh this July. There is no better place to celebrate the beginning of #JAM’s 3rd decade with some of our most #dedicated #partners and #performers.

@StevenIsserlis Maestro how would you think of a piece like La Mer on this axis? Extraordinary work but perhaps doesn’t benefit from interpretative variance?

I THINK it's true to say - but I'm not sure - that the greater the piece of music, the more different from each other interpretations can sound. ( I'm talking here of genuine interpretations, not just imitations of famous performances - a great danger with popular works.)

@RachelWatson1 ...acoustically, the tritone represents a complex ratio, splitting the distance between the perfect 5th (2:3) and perfect forth (4:3). To oversimplify we perceive it as highly dissonant and avoided it for a long time in music. It’s also used for emergency vehicles in Europe

My doctor sister has become fascinated by the fact her crash bleep alarm is a tritone, and wants to read more about the psychological/historical background of how the interval is perceived. I am no help, any suggestions gratefully received (she’s v musically literate)

@RachelWatson1 Hi Rachel I believe the tritone was initially called the devil in music in the renaissance period. Early note-naming systems only went from do (then called ut) to la, so they left out the fa-si (scale degree 4-7) tritone...

“musicians' brains were vastly more structurally and functionally connected than non-musicians, especially in areas of the brain responsible for speech and sound”. The eloquent and compelling case for Bach for All.

Grateful for @cyndilauper’s insight via @spotifyartists — ‘the path of an artist is not easy but it is blessed. Our job as artists is to keep the creative channel open.’ Amen.

In an article in @Londonist today, myself and @justinesimons1 talk about the challenges facing London's cultural sector and our hopes for the future. Covid has highlighted just how important culture is to our economy and our lives: bit.ly/3p1MITB
