@johnjarrold Well said JJ. As a broadcaster it’s also good to rehearse scripts aloud. In fact, not talking to yourself in a broadcasting newsroom is the first sign of madness! It should be the same with dialogue-writing in novels.

@DivingJon The good news, is that “task oriented” introverts - typically accountants & architects - are happy to prepare for, & answer, tough questions as these thinking/planning types are often up for the intellectual challenge involved when they’ve had time to do their thinking in advance

@DivingJon Perhaps, Jon Baker, there’s a problem with the term “small talk”? How about “preliminary chat” instead, so it’s seen as a chance to find out more about those involved in the forthcoming “big talk” - or “official topic discussion”?
