@simonw @ArmandDoma @sama @paulg <3 thank you, @simonw for this mention, & for writing about us when we were just getting started on Niche Museums a few year ago :)) We’ve, unfortunately, had a bunch of issues w SF bureaucrats that nearly killed us, but are doing small pop-ups & working on reopening Palo Alto!

TIL that the same SFFD bureaucrats whose ridiculous overreach depleted the majority of Misalignment Museum funding is also unannounced showing up during business hours and disrupting normal business operations to well run companies to see if they have “phone booths” so they can ding them about not having sprinklers in them and requiring the whole process and fees to get sprinklers put in them. (For context: two months prior to our NBA All Star Games pre-opening I went through the process for permits and was told everything was good to go…until 5 DAYS BEFORE our opening suddenly they said everything they said was ok was not ok, and the only way I could open was pay ~ $8500 to them for “temporary permits” and “overtime fees” to open for free to the public for 4 days?! plus lots of other expensive things would take a long time to write and multiples on top of that to open to the public..anyway, they made it too expensive and difficult for Misalignment Museum to open in our new location…and even if I were to go through the additional process I don’t trust investing more in the space wouldn’t put us in constant mercy of the SFFD “overtime” bank account requirements…so in the process of scoping out new venues in Palo Alto or other southbay locations. Let me know if you guys have any leads!)

Art is en exploration of epistemology —movements of art signify intellectual technology and discoveries (eg Renaissance art manifests understanding of “depth perception” with the discovery of vantage point — before that, you see in gothic art important people were BIG and less important people were SMALL, but in like Michelangelo’s 2D paintings we see the early illusion of 3D distance). With neural nets, AI, ML etc we’re absolutely broaching new understandings of human consciousness and how brains work…it’s exciting and fascinating to witness and be a part of this unfolding of our own minds through technology. Esp love how this early AI Image Gen model in “drawing” Marie Antoinette as the Roco Basilisk converts her fingers into flower vines and then computer cords

We are now auctioning them at Christie's ! Obviously it is very expensive and difficult to make tapestries using ancient methods - but we have loved every part of this process and we would really like to make more of these if possible. It helps keep the craft alive and also supports the misalignment museum, which is a deeply creative and innovative place

I was super moved when the tapestry idea was proposed to me, as a teenager I considered doing art restoration but my parents weren't down with any kind of art school haha. It would be amazing if this could be a well monetized career in the future
