Eventually had to prise the front automatic door open, which had been left on exit only. Bike collected, departing at 23:23 would normally mean home before midnight, but without SPDs and with a chunky jacket and even heavier than normal back pack it was 00:02. 11h12m door to door

I knew today's return was going to be long. Engineering works between York and Newcastle necessitates either a coach replacement from Leeds or a diversion via the Durham Coast from York so regardless of anything else I can't make the last connection to NOP leaving on the 13:00

Yesterday's modes: Cycle 5km, Train 504km, Walk 1km.

On time arrival into Torquay (always slightly disappointing when you have a high value ticket which could attract significant delay repay!) Short walk to the hotel and BBC Spotlight makes up for my lack of buses today.

This weekend sees the annual trip to the Surf Life Saving GB Summit. Disappointing that it's in Torquay again instead of a new destination, but I can still make the trip a bit unique. Unfortunately heavy rain means things will be a little wetter than planned...

@Dave_H_King Yes, correct. Though there never really was much reason to do so apart from my niche case and simplicity of booking seat reservations (which can be done without a ticket but isn't intuitive).

@MultiModalGeoff If I understand the confusing change to fares rules, there’s even less incentive to buy off peak before the day if there’s any chance you might not be able to travel?
