The Embassy of Israel in the United Kingdom expresses its profound disappointment at the passage of a motion on the Middle East at the Labour Party Conference. It is of great concern that Labour members have backed this motion and we call on the government to reject it entirely. Israel is engaged in a defensive conflict against Hamas, an organisation that openly seeks Israel’s destruction and systematically uses civilians as human shields. Israel continues to take extensive steps to avoid civilian casualties. We will not rest until the hostages are released and Hamas is removed from power in Gaza. The recent decision by the Labour Party to recognise a Palestinian state risks undermining the prospect of a negotiated ceasefire. Israel remains committed to working with the UK Government, business community, and civil society to deepen cooperation and strengthen the close bonds between our two countries, in the firm belief that the only way forward is through dialogue, partnership, and innovation.
