Jerry brought me home an eagle feather today. There is an eagle nest less than a quarter mile from my house, we see them often, but it’s a beautiful thing when we find one of their feathers. He brought me to where he found it, and I gave an offering of tobacco in thanks Something that a lot of people don’t know, is that keeping a raptor feather, or a migratory bird feather is illegal in the United States unless you are Native American. The fines can get quite steep, up to $15,000 and even jail time. It’s not unheard of here in New England for undercover agents to be at powwow’s, looking for people selling these feathers to non natives. I think that our priorities are a lil fucked up when we dedicate time and energy into performative moral high grounds and never recognize when real shit happens.
