The Guilty Men and Women who have left us exposed at this moment of crisis can be found in this photo. The war on domestic oil and gas, and the Net Zero-driven deindustrialisation of our petrochemical sector, are to blame - not petrol retailers or “Big Oil”.

🚨 NEW: The Petrol Retailers Association has cancelled a meeting with Rachel Reeves over "inflammatory language" by the Government which was leading to "incidents of retail staff being abused"

“The very last thing Miliband could do with at this point is a load of power-hungry electric arc furnaces being installed. Thankfully for him, what is likely to happen instead is that other forms of industry leave the country, as Britain adds high steel prices to its already dire business environment for manufacturers.” @baylissbaghdad

“If the war on Iran and this level of market turbulence continues, Brits face the very real prospect of energy and fuel rationing later this year… We have gone way beyond the point where Miliband’s dangerous green ideology should be allowed to trump common sense.” @TheSun

Thousands of people are opposing plans for a major wind farm off the Isle of Man's coast, claiming it will have a "devastating" effect on the island's natural beauty. The proposals by Danish energy giant Orsted could see 87 turbines built six to 12 miles off the eastern coast. More destruction of Britain's natural beauty. #CostOfNetZero

British factories face production cuts within weeks because of surging gas prices, industry bodies have warned. Ceramics businesses, glass manufacturers and chemical companies that are already operating under significantly higher energy costs than our global competitors could bear the brunt of the global energy crisis. #CostOfNetZero

“In this context, what might seem like a sensible gesture on North Sea exploration may in fact prove the slip that snaps the pawl, and the ratchet fails. With his whole agenda in the balance, it’s far too great a risk for the energy secretary to consider.”

An excellent article from @baylissbaghdad on why backing down on North Sea resources would undermine Miliband’s whole agenda.

Senior correspondent at Politico @KarlMathiesen breaks down how installing his heat pump was a costly nightmare. The best part is the admission at the end of “Due to an unforeseen crane malfunction, my heat pump remains on my doorstep at time of publication. Typical.”

With gas prices skyrocketing, what can be done to protect Britain from the impact of international events? A report by the University of Oxford claims North Sea drilling wouldn't help lower bills, but is this true? ⬇️
University of Oxford@UniofOxford

'Staying the course on clean energy would not only save households three times as much money but render the UK truly energy secure for generations to come.' Maximising North Sea production would reduce bills by just £16 to £82 per year, say researchers from the Oxford Smith School ⬇️ theconversation.com/would-more-nor…

Great thread on what can actually be done about energy prices. No quick fixes. Just the sensible measures we should have implemented back in 2022 to address the problem at source. 👇👇👇
Juliet Samuel@CitySamuel

I get asked sometimes what politicians should do about energy prices. None of these measures would solve the problem tomorrow. It’s too late for that. But this is our second gas crisis in five years. If we don’t do this, we will be back here again in a few years.

A survey that polled more than 800 executives globally across oil, gas, utilities, chemicals, mining and agribusiness reported that 44 per cent of executives now expect the world will reach net zero emissions by 2070 or later, marking a shift from three years ago when 45 per cent of respondents forecast the world would meet a net zero target in 2050 or earlier. Reality hits. #CostOfNetZero

Labour’s steel strategy is a betrayal of British Steel It will destroy many thousands of skilled jobs in Scunthorpe and beyond Only Reform will renew the blast furnaces & grow British Steel to ensure we retain strong virgin steel making capability
