@patricksantry @AtheistTakes You’re right that the meme is too simplistic. Horus/Jesus is mostly bad internet myth. But Noah/Gilgamesh/Atrahasis and Moses/Sargon are real parallels. To me, that doesn’t maybe preserve history, it shows exactly what religion usually is: older myths recycled into new theology.

This meme confuses “older” with “source” and “similarity” with “copying.” The Sargon story is a royal birth legend, not Moses. The Horus/Jesus comparison is largely internet mythology rejected by Egyptologists. The Gilgamesh flood account does share parallels with Genesis, but shared traditions don’t prove fiction; they may preserve memories of a common historical event. By this logic, every civilization that shares laws, flood stories, or heroic narratives must be fictional. History isn’t that simplistic.
