Hace años que estoy intentando (sin mucho ahinco ni éxito) popularizar el concepto de “tercio de hora”: — 17:20 cinco y tercio. — 15:40 cuatro menos tercio. Pero a la gente le cuesta mucho pillarlo 🤷 literalmente es igual de complicado que “cuarto” o “medio” e igual de largo.

Young men in Spain have gone to the far right. Given that immigration to Spain has caused much fewer problems than elsewhere, this is good indication that it’s not about actual grievances, but young men turn right because they’re just kind of stupid.

Aileen Wuornos was a severely abused and traumatized woman who killed men that tried to rape her. Her father was a pedophile who raped a 7 year old and later committed suicide. Her mother abandoned her as at the age of 4 resulting in her being adopted by her grandparents which she later accused her grandfather of sexually abusing her. At 14 she was raped by a friend of her grandfather and became pregnant. Her grandfather forced her to give up the baby for adoption. She struggled with addiction and undiagnosed mental illnesses her whole life due to her childhood trauma. She eventually became a sex worker to support herself and began killing in self defense after potential clients she’d turn down tried to overpower her and rape her. She was a tortured soul who never had a fair chance at life. She wasn’t crazy. She was mentally ill and needed help. The system failed her and she was sentenced to death rather than given rehabilitation opportunities. Her case will always devastate me.

@SamaHoole Is way easier than the teeth argument: If humans weren't fit to eat meat, they wouldn't be able to digest it nor take any nutrients from it. If humans weren't fit to eat meat we would be biologically incapable of doing so.

Vegan: "Our teeth are just like chimpanzees. Frugivores. Meant for fruit and plants." Right. A few things. First: chimpanzees eat meat. They hunt colobus monkeys in organised group raids. They fight over the carcass. They eat the brain first. Second: chimpanzee teeth are larger than ours: bigger canines, bigger molars, because chimpanzees process tough raw vegetation with their face. We stopped needing to do that when we invented tools. Third: your teeth are not your primary food processing equipment. Your hands are. A knife is. Fire is. A beaver's teeth can fell a tree. A human with an axe fells it faster and doesn't need the teeth at all. The entire teeth argument assumes that the body part you use to eat food is also the body part that defines your diet. That logic doesn't survive contact with a chimpanzee holding a dead monkey, let alone a human holding a flint scraper from 2.6 million years ago. Our teeth got smaller because our tools got sharper. The diet didn't change. The equipment did. "But the flat molars..." Are you doing the flat molars thing again.

Fun fact: the arguments used in this tweet are the exact reason male birth control doesn't exist yet for sale. All the original trials showed it was much safer, with less side effects, and higher success rates then even the most invasive female birth control methods. But it was forcibly shut down by women's advocacy groups which lobbied using the claims that it was denying women control over pregnancy which was seen as an exclusively female right.

@theclassicwife I'm referring to unhealthy eggs, not IVF. if an egg isn’t healthy enough to produce a viable embryo, there is an evolutionary reason for that. And you feel like ultimately this would just produce more chemical pregnancies/miscarriages, and children with birth defects. Right?

I’m not a fertility expert but I feel like if a sperm isn’t healthy enough to swim and fertilize an egg successfully, there is an evolutionary reason for that. I feel like ultimately this would just produce more chemical pregnancies/miscarriages, and children with birth defects.

I remember many people attacking this movie. There is a “natural” male desire to feel needed. Anyone characterizing helping someone as some sinister intent or something of an obsession to care for someone who is disabled like Josee should really look in the mirror at how they quickly they jump the fence to these conclusions.
