The stadium was absolutely bouncing, more atmosphere than a whole season at Murrayfield. Kept the Scots quiet. We need a hype man on the mic (and some better chants!)

Top20 of 2024 films seen so far 🎞️🎉🤩

@HurluberluFilms Haha everyone loves a good McGuffin, but the Camera sub-plot didn't work for me at all. I watch a lot of Everest documentaries, and there are so many amazing real stories to tell. And you can't beat footage of the real deal Himalayan mountains!

@ParagraphFilms I wouldn’t say the animation is simple but there is indeed a stark contrast between the sophistication of the characters drawing and the mountains, which can be disengaging at times. Btw, I had to google McGuffin, I feel like a complete cinephile now ! 👌🏻

THE SUMMIT OF THE GODS (🇫🇷🇱🇺 2021) Simple animation style, interesting sound design, and the final climb feels quite cinematic. Animation minimises the majesty, scale, awe, and peril of the real scenery, and the fiction + MacGuffin angles feelt like a stretch. SCORE: 6/10

THE PEOPLE'S JOKER (🇺🇸 US 2022) Free-wheeling anarchic chaos from start to finish, some solid humour & tons of DC in-jokes. Ultra-creative, transgressive, experimental, cineliterate, & punk as fuck. Narcissistic & angry trauma dumping, but at least it's entertaining! SCORE: 6/10

RUSSIAN RAID (🇷🇺 RU 2020) a bunch of current and ex Russian Martial Artists made an action film. Standard revenger plot evokes the Indonesian movies, but isn't at the same level. Still fun seeing non-stop kinetic MMA fights, some of which are ambitious and clever. SCORE: 6.5/10

Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN (🇲🇽 MX 2001) a fiery & spicy Mexican coming of age road movie. Only real turn off is the narration with tons of quirky, often needless details. Engaging story that slowly reveals more information, anchored by thee great and believable performances. SCORE: 8/10

@GameOverR3vi3ws Never heard a bigger collective groan in a cinema then when this faded to black at the end. Biggest tease ever!!!

This film deserves more love

NOSFERATU (🇺🇸 US 2024) beautifully shot with impressive camerawork & production / design. Way too respectful of the original story, contributes very few new ideas to the broader Dracula cannon. Depp and ATJ rip it up, everyone else feels a bit too hammy. SCORE: 6/10

Kneecap (2024). A biopic from the Belfast band who seem to have come out of nowhere. I am not 100% sure how much of this is 100% accurate - but I was engaged throughout! 8/10.

WATCHER (🇦🇪🇺🇸🇷🇴 2002) Creepy, clever, & well-executed set-pieces. Direction is great at building an atmosphere & real sense of dread. Well-acted, looks slick, great design; pleasantly surprised by how premium this is. Solid thriller about men not listening to women! SCORE: 7/10

THE GARDENER (🇧🇪 BE 2025) An enormously silly farce aimed squarely at ageing JCVD fans... and I quite enjoyed it! 20 mins too long, boasts some competent action, but elevated by a surprisingly funny comedy script and Michaël Youn's panto performance. Worth a look! SCORE: 7/10

AGENT OF HAPPINESS (🇧🇹 BT 2024) Fabulous portrait of a country: travels the length & breadth of Bhutan interviewing all types of people. An upbeat and fairly gentle doc, I really enjoyed seeing the land & citizens, but it tapered out a little in the final half. SCORE: 6.5/10

During WWII a perfectly-executed sabotage operation by British Special Operations and the Norwegian Resistance put a dent in the Nazi’s quest for an atomic bomb. Today, it’s unclear how effective it really was, but it’s still a heckuva story!

SONGS OF EARTH (🇳🇴 NO 2023) Incredible footage of fjords, mountains, glaciers, & wildlife. That's all there really is though - the director gets some great footage of her parents to savour, but it's not particularly exciting or insightful viewing as a non-relative. SCORE: 4/10
