It’s an overused word but Mircea Lucescu genuinely was a real legend of the game. Never stopped loving it or learning about it. Knitted together nations and cultures within football via his passion for it in all forms. RIP

We have many players that lack initiative. Why drive the ball forward only to turn back and pass to the defense? Half of the time the possession is lost without any productive output. Why not cross it into the box where you have a striker?

Falilat Ogunkoya knew how to rise to the occasion. At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, in a race stacked with the world’s best quarter-milers, she won bronze in the 400 metres and set an African record. She was back on the track hours later to anchor Nigeria’s 4x400m relay team to a silver medal, sealing her place in the country’s Olympic history. Ogunkoya first made her mark as a 200-metre sprinter, claiming gold at the 1987 All-Africa Games, but it was in the 400m that she found her true strength. By the mid-1990s, she had become one of the world’s most consistent quarter-milers, winning back-to-back African Championships titles and dominating the event at the 1999 All-Africa Games with double gold in the 400m and 4x400m relay. At the World Championships, she repeatedly faced the strongest competition of her era, making the finals in 1995 and 1997 and proving she belonged among the elite. After retiring, Ogunkoya focused on athlete development, using her experience to mentor the next generation.
