Antoinette Sithole is a leading anti apartheid activist and historian, widely recognized as the older sister of Hector Pieterson, the 12 year old boy who was killed during the 1976 Soweto Uprising. She emerged as a powerful global symbol of the fight against apartheid after being photographed running in tears beside student Mbuyisa Makhubo, who was carrying her mortally wounded brother. The historic image, captured by photojournalist Sam Nzima, dramatically heightened international awareness of the South African regime’s brutality. Antoinette continues to play an active role in public life today. The late The late Francis Rasuge (27) 🕊️🕊️ an (SAPS) constable who disappeared and her case set a major legal precedent when her partner, William Gadifele Nkuna, was successfully convicted of her murder in 2005 without her body being found. Constable Rasuge was last seen alive on 27 August 2004 at a hairdressing salon in Temba, outside Pretoria, in the company of her estranged boyfriend, William Nkuna. She had previously obtained a protection order against him after he threatened her life. Following her disappearance, investigators found her blood in Nkuna’s vehicle, and bank records proved he withdrew money from her accounts using her PIN. In November 2005, despite a missing body and Nkuna maintaining his innocence, Judge Ronald Hendricks found Nkuna guilty based on an inescapable web of circumstantial evidence. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. Nearly 8 years later, on 20 March 2012 construction workers laying a foundation at Nkuna’s former home in Temba uncovered human bones. DNA testing confirmed the remains belonged to Rasuge. She was finally laid to rest by her family on 11 April 2012 at the Honingnestkrans Cemetery in Pretoria. Having served over 20 years of his life sentence, William Nkuna (now in his early 60s) became legally eligible for parole review. During parole dialogue processes, Rasuge’s family vehemently opposed his release. Her sister Rose Khutsoane, revealed that during these meetings, Nkuna finally admitted to killing Rasuge with his bare hands. However the family noted he showed absolutely no remorse, appeared arrogant, and still posed a danger to society.

However it breaks my heart that Zimbabwe has massive talent but it goes to waste because of a corrupt and inept government. Now South Africa saw it befitting to act it out and they did a sterling job. Jealous down. Imagine with prolific writers such as Sue Nyathi our own acting industry would flourish, we would feature on Netflix too. But hey we got GD6s. It doesn't matter. No?

Mahikeng assistant teacher Masego Moshweu was found dead in her Golf View home. Her family alleges she was attacked with a screwdriver and hammer and suspects her husband was involved. He denies the allegations. Police are investigating, and no arrests have been announced.

A few days ago, I tweeted that I think the DA will lose its majority in the City of Cape Town. That opinion has resulted in me receiving thousands of DMs containing rape and death threats from DA members/supporters. You are welcome to disagree with my opinion. If I am wrong, I am wrong. But threatening me with sexual violence because you disagree with my view is disgusting. In addition, I have been threatened with having my job as a journalist made “difficult”. I have been told I will not be given comment when I ask for it and that my editors will be contacted and pressured to remove me from stories. This is a tactic many of my colleagues warned me about. I have told me to avoid talking about the DA altogether because of threats like these. Twitter is not journalism. My journalistic integrity is measured by the articles I write, not by the opinions I share on social media. A tweet is not a news article. I did not publish a piece of reporting; I expressed an opinion. In a country where GBV claims the lives of hundreds of women yearly and has been declared a national crisis, it is completely unacceptable that I am receiving rape threats for expressing a political opinion. This is not simply another aspect of my job. While threats and attacks against journalists are sadly common, nobody would be threatening me with rape if I were a man. I will not be silenced because I expressed a view. In 2023, I publicly stated that I believed the ANC would lose its majority in 2024. Many people disagreed with me, but I did not receive a single rape threat from ANC members or supporters. I do not speak about the DA more than any other political party. Analysing political parties is literally my job as a political analyst. What disgusts me is that in a country with constitutional protections for freedom of expression, a young woman can be threatened with rape and violence simply for making a political prediction. Disagree with me if you want. Argue with me. Tell me I am wrong. But do not threaten my safety because you dislike my opinion.
