@carnomarth I think people are misunderstanding me when they say they’re best as a tribute act or whatever but i think there’s a certain joie de vivre to their sound that was lost between 3DC and GK. They’re still good but they feel more straightforward to their detriment

and, to finish; it’s pretty revealing of your mindset about music and art to diminish people’s sound with this hackneyed “ripoff” mindset, as if everyone is jacking everyone else’s stuff out of malice or bandwagoning. promise you, that’s not on anyone behind the instruments’ mind

CW / Geese have always been very clear with their influences across their discog but mainly to their detriment. Projector is clearly a calgary style post punk record, 3D Country sounds like a decent ween tribute. The reason Getting Killed is their best record through and through
Brick@Quebricked

Geese were good when they sounded like Television. They were at their best when they sounded like Ween. Unfortunately someone told them they should try to sound like Radiohead

@mild_salsa_ @bluecollarprose You gotta admit there’s a fair bit of ween in the 3dc sound. It’s not 1-to-1 obviously but they’re there

@forgotoeat It’s a little more sonically cohesive sure but there is something to be missed in how deliberately disjointed 3DC feels

@Quebricked Mm, I can see that. When GK first dropped, the goofy Ween-ism’s were missed by me. But overtime I’ve come to think GK is a much better Geese project in that it feels more unique to them. As much as I love 3DC, it’s so heavily soaked in its influences and GK feels more singular.

@Quebricked never cared to give geese a listen but they've sounded like ween? if hypothetically I was interested in that what songs should I listen to?

@_hallucinex Ok it is a bit of a braindead idiom but what do you do when something actually sounds a bit like radiohead

@just__noise I’m generalizing a little sure but my point is they lost a bit of their colorfulness between records

@Quebricked Ridiculous take. They’re genuine songwriters. They’re very obviously killer musicians making music themselves, not getting told what to make or how to sound

@diandrasdiandra Getting killed is definitely a solid album and i like the whole loose jammy feel but 3DC was so tight- the soulful parts of geese and cam’s solo work is their best and most distinctive asset

i agree with the sentiment. like... getting killed is excellent and, the one thing i can say it does do better than 3DC is cameron realllyyy improved tenfold as a writer/lyricist in GK, but i do sorely miss the energy and the soul influence of 3DC, i do! it had a singularity

@Quebricked Well radiohead shits on the other two. I am just now discovering Geese but there is something there at least. Why wouldn't they want to be more than the fun but ultimately dismissible Ween and Television.

@Quebricked @H1DDENBODIES I hear ya! I just feel a curve towards that idea becomes something like foxygen or lemon twigs territory, when they showed interesting flashes of avant-garde in 3D. Both great albums IMO.

@forgotoeat The toning down of the goofiness i think seems like an effort to seem like a respected rock act. Which is a little cringe

@Quebricked GK is stylistically very similar to 3DC, the main difference being in Cameron’s vocal delivery and the production/mixing. They definitely toned down the goofiness but its still very much in the same vain of rock, I’ve never got the claim that they pandered to the indie-head fans.

@Quebricked @H1DDENBODIES Interesting that you have that perspective. Judging where they were during 3D Country, I can’t think of which other direction they could’ve gone that wasn’t already done by other artists. I think the sense of 70s and avant- garde is still there in GK.

@murray__street Opposite for me- i love the production but some of the songs feel a bit hookless which is kind of a bad idea for an indie rock band

@Quebricked i think the songwriting on getting killed is still solid but it has some of my least fav production on a rock album this decade
